Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine specialists, dermatologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other clinicians who manage patients with cosmeceuticals.

The goal of this activity is for learners to have increased knowledge on the effect of sugars on aging skin and how glycation end products affect the skin, as well as greater competence in recommending skincare regimens that take into account the processes of glycation and oxidative stress.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Factors that contribute to glycation of the skin
    • Mechanism of action of cosmeceuticals targeting glycation of the skin
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Recommendation of appropriate skincare regimens that encompass multiple aspects of the oxidative stress cascade
