Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for primary care physicians (PCPs), infectious disease (ID) specialists, critical care specialists, emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

The goal of this activity is for learners to be able to optimize the management of acute upper respiratory tract infections using available rapid diagnostic tests.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Key characteristics of available diagnostic panels for acute upper respiratory infections
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Integrating diagnostic stewardship principles with syndromic panels when testing for acute upper respiratory tract infections
    • Optimizing patient management strategies based on results from rapid diagnostic tests
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Use rapid diagnostic tests judiciously for the identification of acute upper respiratory tract infections
