Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for cardiologists, surgeons, primary care physicians, hematologists and oncologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism, CAD, or PAD.

The goal of this activity is for learners to better recognize inequities in care for those in racial/ethnic minority groups with or at risk of CAD and PAD; evaluate the safety and efficacy of new antithrombotic treatment strategies in improving cardiovascular (CV) and limb outcomes in these patient populations; and tailor antithrombotic therapeutic approaches to optimize outcomes for these underserved patients.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Impact of CAD and PAD in people from racial/ethnic minority groups
    • Safety and efficacy of novel antithrombotic strategies on major CV and limb outcomes
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Application of the latest guidelines and evidence to choose appropriate antithrombotic regimens in underserved patients with CAD or PAD
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Work as part of an interprofessional team to select appropriate antithrombotic therapy for patients from racial/ethnic minority groups with CAD or PAD to optimize CV and limb outcomes
