Target Audience and Goal Statement

This program is appropriate for gastroenterologists; hepatologists; surgeons performing endoscopic, laparoscopic, and thoracic procedures; nurses; nurse practitioners; and other allied healthcare professionals who care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

The goal of this activity is to help clinicians choose among and best position the many therapies available for their patients with IBD; challenging, as patients with IBD present with wide variability in symptoms and extent of disease. This activity takes learners through the mechanisms of action of the different agents and the use of clinical decision-making tools for appropriate drug selection and personalization of treatment. 

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  1. Recognize evolving biologic and small molecule mechanisms for treating IBD
  2. Identify efficacy and safety of newer therapies and treatment strategies for IBD.
