Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for psychiatrists, psychiatry nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) involved in the care of patients with bipolar disorder.

The goal of this activity is for learners to be better able to identify bipolar disorder, recognize patients who are not achieving appropriate treatment response, and optimize treatment based on the latest evidence and patient-related factors.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding
    • How clinical data on new treatments for bipolar disorder fits into the paradigm of care for this condition
    • When to consider a treatment switch for patients with bipolar disorder
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Assessment of treatment tolerability
    • Developing individualized pharmacologic treatment approaches for bipolar disorder
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Engage patients in shared decision-making regarding their comprehensive bipolar disorder care
