Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for infectious disease specialists and others engaged in IDWeek who care for patients with or have an interest in influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and other viral respiratory infections. 

The goal of this activity is that learners will be better able to reduce complications from respiratory infections and be aware of emerging/new prevention methods where in development or available.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Current trends in respiratory virus infections in the United States
    • Patients at highest risk of severe disease from respiratory viral infections
    • The effect of aging on vaccine response
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, caregivers, and their communities about the importance of prevention, including vaccination when available, to prevent viral respiratory infections
