This activity is intended for pediatricians, family medicine and primary care clinicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and other members of the healthcare team for infants who may be at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The goal of this activity is for learners to be better able to describe activity of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) in infants and young children who died from SIDS or sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI), according to a case control study evaluating BChE activity of SIDS infants vs non-SIDS deaths and date of birth- and sex-matched (living) control participants, using dried blood spot (DBS) samples obtained routinely at birth via heel prick (Guthrie test).
