Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for dermatologists, pharmacists, primary care physicians (PCPs), pediatricians, nurses, nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and pharmacists involved in the care of patients with dermatologic conditions.

The goal of this activity is that learners will be better able to consider the appropriate use of over-the-counter (OTC) skincare products for their patients.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Evidence supporting different OTC products in aiding skin barrier function 
    • Role of different sunscreen ingredients in providing photoprotection 
    • Application of OTC adjuvants to office-based dermatologic procedures
    • Selection of OTC products as part of skin and hair care regimens for patients for different Fitzpatrick skin types
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to  
    • Incorporate best practices in team-based management of dermatologic conditions
