Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for emergency medicine physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists, and infectious disease/HIV specialists.

The goal of this activity is that the learner will be better able to understand rising rates of sexually transmitted infections, as well as new and emerging testing methods, including mode and timing of test delivery and results, and clinical benefits related to advances in polymerase chain reaction testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Challenges of current STI testing practices
    • Operational benefits related to advances in molecular testing
    • Clinical benefits related to advances in molecular testing for STI management
