Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for cardiologists and primary care physicians.

The goal of this activity is to assess current trends related to lipid lowering, as well as clinical trial data surrounding novel lipid-lowering therapies and their potential role for the treatment of patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) at high risk of cardiovascular (CV) events.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Mechanisms of action (MOAs) of new non-statin lipid-lowering therapies
    • Clinical trial data for new non-statin lipid-lowering therapies
    • Guideline recommendations for lipid lowering in patients with HeFH and ASCVD
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Individualizing intensification of lipid-lowering therapy in patients not at goal on maximum-dose statin therapy
