Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for nephrologists, endocrinologists, primary care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners and pharmacists.

The goal of this activity is to discuss the pathophysiology of hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), as well as current and emerging treatment approaches to reduce phosphorous levels in patients with CKD on dialysis.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Mechanisms of action (MOAs) for emerging strategies for managing hyperphosphatemia
    • Clinical differences of emerging hyperphosphatemia treatment strategies compared with older phosphate binders
    • Mechanism of disease in hyperphosphatemia
