Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for obstetricians and gynecologists, primary care physicians, and pathologists. 

The goal of this activity is to improve clinicians' ability to triage women who are human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive or have had an abnormal Pap test and, thereby, minimize unnecessary colposcopies and biopsies.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding
    • The limitations of traditional cytology methods in the triage of HPV-positive women 
    • The newer methodologies to triage women with abnormal screening results 
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Follow-up care for HPV-positive patients
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Incorporate newer triage methodologies into clinical practice
