Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, diabetologists, and endocrinologists.

The goal of this activity is to help primary care physicians and optometrists identify patients at risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and emphasize the need for referral, stressing the importance that eye exams happen to enable early intervention to prevent vision loss. The latest data from American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2020 virtual meeting will be included.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Management strategies for nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR)
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Identifying patients at risk of diabetic eye disease
