Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for neurologists, pediatricians, and primary care physicians.

The goal of this activity is to increase knowledge and improve competence in diagnosing patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) using motor symptoms, screening tools, and genetic testing.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Motor symptoms suggestive of potential neuromuscular disorder
    • Screening tools for the recognition of SMA
    • Interpretation of genetic testing results for SMA
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Selection of patients who should receive genetic testing for SMA
