Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, hematology/oncology specialists, and nurses.

The goal of this activity is to improve clinicians' knowledge and competence regarding the diagnosis and management of iron deficiency anemia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Causes and clinical manifestations of iron deficiency
    • Team-based roles in iron deficiency anemia (IDA) recognition and treatment
    • Burden and impact of IDA on a patient with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Diagnostic evaluation for suspected IDA
  • Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to
    • Treat patients with IBD who have IDA
