Target Audience and Goal Statement

This educational activity is intended for an international audience of non-US primary care physicians, diabetologists & endocrinologists, and cardiologists.

The goal of this activity is to reinforce the importance of obesity management for patient outcomes, and how to optimize lasting outcomes with non pharmacologic and pharmacologic strategies.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Physiology and complexity of obesity as a chronic disease requiring long-term treatment
    • Enduring weight loss achievable via a collaborative and integrated approach
  • Have greater competence related to
    • Selecting appropriate evidence-based pharmacotherapy for sustained weight loss

The following steps outline one route by which a healthcare professional can apply for SCOPE Certification by combining Medscape CME activities with SCOPE E-Learning modules.

All SCOPE E-Learning modules referred to below can be accessed via www.scope-elearning.org. The Core Learning Path can be accessed for £70 (with discounts available for World Obesity members and HCPs in low-and-middle income countries) and all other modules are available for free.

Step 1: Complete the SCOPE Core Learning Path

= 4 SCOPE points

Step 2: Complete the following SCOPE Accredited Medscape activities; below are the programs in this year’s initiative:

  2. Are We Ready to Tackle Chronic Obesity in Primary Care? (0.5 SCOPE points)

Step 3: Complete 12 free supplementary SCOPE E-Learning modules (0.5 SCOPE points each)
