Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for cardiologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists, primary care physicians, nurses and pharmacists and all members of the healthcare team interested in managing patients with dyslipidemia.

The goal of this activity is to understand the risk of new-onset diabetes mellitus (DM) associated with statin therapy and strategies to implement the latest American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guideline recommendations on minimizing that risk.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding the
    • Risk for new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) in patients on statin therapy
    • Latest ACC/AHA guideline recommendations on strategies to minimize the risk of NODM associated with the use of statin therapy
  • Have greater competence related to the
    • Application of latest lipid-lowering guidelines, using a team based approach, in patients at risk for NODM
