Target Audience and Goal Statement
This activity is intended for physicians and nurses who provide care to patients living with human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) infection.
The goal of this activity is to improve care of patients living with HIV who also have mental health and/or substance use
disorders.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will:
- Have increased knowledge regarding the:
- Mental health disorders and substance use as risk factors for nonadherence to antiretroviral therapy
- Unique challenges faced by patients living with HIV who experience mental health disorders and/or substance use
- Strategies for screening and addressing factors related to mental health disorders and substance use during HIV treatment
and care
- Clinical benefits of including assessment for mental health disorders and substance use in the routine medical care of patients
living with HIV
