Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity was developed for dermatologists and rheumatologists. Other clinicians, including physician assistants and nurse practitioners who treat patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA), may benefit from participation in the activity.

This engaging, 45-minute enduring activity is designed for clinicians who treat patients with psoriasis and PsA. This activity will engage, inform, and educate participants on best practices for discussing with patients their beliefs about PsA and expectations for disease treatment and management. There will be a focus on shared decision making regarding goals of treatment and the treatment plan, as well as the coordination of care between dermatology providers and rheumatology providers in management of patients with PsA. The patient is the focus of the curriculum, and a series of short videos featuring a patient with psoriasis and PsA and his interactions with the healthcare providers will be featured.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will increase their ability to:

  1. Discuss with patients their beliefs about PsA, perceptions of disease severity, understanding of likely disease course, benefit/risk profiles of personalized treatment options, and expectations in respect to therapeutic outcomes
  2. Effectively engage patients with PsA in shared decision making regarding goals of treatment, development of a PsA treatment plan, and treatment modification
  3. Develop a patient-centered approach to coordination of care between dermatology providers and rheumatology providers in managing patients with PsA
