Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, emergency medicine physicians, obstetricians & gynecologists, and ID/HIV specialists.

The goal of this activity is to educate clinicians on the use of antigen-based and molecular-based point of care rapid influenza tests.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge regarding:
    1. When testing for influenza can provide benefit in establishing a diagnosis
    2. Advantages and disadvantages of rapid antigen tests and newer rapid molecular tests incorporating PCR for the diagnosis of flu
    3. The potential role of rapid molecular tests in antibiotic stewardship and/or overall patient care decisions
