Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for surgeons, infectious disease specialists, hospitalists, intensivists, emergency medicine physicians, and nurses/nurse practitioners.

The goal of this activity is to highlight best practices for prevention of surgical-site infections as a strategy for improving outcomes in surgical patients.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the need to control physiologic factors that contribute to surgical-site infections (SSI)
  2. Evaluate new data on skin antisepsis and nasal decontamination as strategies for preventing SSI
  3. Recognize strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing SSI prevention recommendations
