    Overview

    Featuring the patient perspective, this symposium highlights the impact that frequent and chronic migraines have on personal and professional lives and how a comprehensive migraine prophylaxis program can radically change the outcome. An in-depth review of the pathophysiology of migraine will allow learners to more fully comprehend the new opportunities and challenges offered by emerging novel therapies for the treatment of frequent and chronic migraine.

    Target Audience
    This activity is intended for neurologists, primary care physicians, and psychiatrists.
    Goal Statement
    The goal of this activity is to provide an overview of the impact of frequent and chronic migraine from the patients' perspectives, as well as to highlight novel preventive therapies, and those in development, designed to improve the quality of life of people with migraine.
    Learning Objectives
    Upon completion of this activity, participants will have increased knowledge regarding the:
    • Risk factors for the development of frequent migraine (ie, 6 or more headaches per month
    • Diagnostic criteria for chronic migraine
    • Investigational therapies for the prevention of frequent migraine
    • Appropriate use of preventive therapy for patients with migraine
    • Pathophysiology of migraine as it relates to new targets for the development of investigational therapies
