Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear. In infants, ear infection symptoms include fever, pulling at one or both ears, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. In children and adults, symptoms include ear pain, hearing loss, and dizziness. Ear infection treatment is directed at symptom relief. Ear infection antibiotics, although used cautiously, are recommended for patients who have lingering or multiple infections within 30 days.
