About Lipids and Cardiovascular Risk Management

  • Cholesterol and triglycerides, at levels that indicate dyslipidemia, are strongly implicated in heart disease. A cholesterol test/lipid test should report the relative quantities of HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels help determine the need for pharmacotherapy in patients with high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and symptoms of cardiovascular disease who do not respond to conservative measures such as exercise, stress reduction, and a low-cholesterol diet.
