About Arrhythmias

  • The cardiac arrhythmias most commonly seen in clinical practice are atrial fibrillation and paroxysmal tachycardia; in patients with heart disease, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation are most common. Atrial fibrillation, recognized by the absence of P waves on electrocardiogram, increases the risk for thromboembolic events and stroke. Atrial fibrillation treatment may involve cardioversion, medication, or radioablation. Ventricular arrhythmias may require pacemakers to maintain sinus rhythm and/or implantable defibrillators for recurrent ventricular arrhythmias.
